DIY: Unique Patio Coffee Table Makeover with Herringbone Slats

I bought this coffee table online for the patio. It has a wrought iron base and the top is made of particle board with a wood veneer on it.  Since it lives outside, it started to show wear and tear after one summer.  At one point I sanded and painted it and applied stencils.  But like everything else in AZ it faded over time.  So I decided to apply wood slats in a herringbone pattern.  I bought 8 foot lengths of lattice wood.  Cut them down to size and applied paint and stain in various shades.  Then glued and nailed them to the top.  I painted the sides black and it blends in nicely.  It’s not perfect but it’s an outdoor table, it doesn’t need to be.  We’re very happy with it!
